Save water, save money

Try to cut the 300 litres of water used by most UK households every single day

-

If you use gas, about 15% of your bill is from heating water. saving water will save you money and help the environment. so re-think your usage and lets get saving!

1 How do you pay for your water? Look into the price difference between paying by water meter or an upfront fixed tariff.

It might be worth changing if you can.

2 insulate your hot-water cylinder and pipe. in a year, you could save well into double digits, and your water should run quicker, hotter and faster.

3 Only use your washing machine and dishwasher when you have a full load.

4 Make sure you fix any leaks and dripping taps. You are literally throwing money away if you don’t. Find a plumber on checkatrade.com or see if you’re covered on your home insurance.

5 Take short showers – limit yourself to five minutes – or lower your bath-water level. Turn off the tap when brushing your teeth.

6 use a rainwater butt. over the rainy season, it will top itself up. try water-storing gel – mix it with your soil, and the granules will absorb moisture, then release it back when your plants need it.

7 Think about adding flow regulators throughout your household, and change to water-saving eco showerheads like those from well-known, respected brands like Mira and Hansgrohe.
