sweater

Back

With 3.25mm needles and Red, cast on 63 (69) sts.

1st rib row: K1, [p1, k1] to end. 2nd rib row: P1, [k1, p1] to end. These 2 rows form rib. Rib another 8 rows.

Change to 4mm needles.

stranding yarn not in use loosely across wrong side, reading chart from right to left on right side (k) rows and from left to right on wrong side (p) rows, work pattern from chart starting at correct place for your size, and working 8-st repeat 7 (8) times and working 8-row pattern as follows: Pattern a total of 36 (44) rows. Mark each end of last row for top of side seam. ** Pattern a further 9 rows.

Divide for back neck: Next

row (wrong side): Pattern 34 (37) sts, then slip these sts onto a st holder for left back neck, pattern to end – 29 (32) sts.

right back neck:

Next row: Pattern to end, turn and with White, cast on 5 sts – 34 (37) sts.

1st row (wrong side): With White, k1 [p1, k1] twice, pattern to end.

2nd row: Pattern to last 5 sts, with White, p1, [k1, p1] twice. Repeat the last 2 rows, 6 (7) times more, then work 1st row once more.

*** shape shoulders: Cast off 10 (11) sts at beginning of next and following alternate row – 14 (15) sts.

Work 1 row. Cast off.

Left back neck: 1st row: With right side facing, rejoin White to sts on left back neck holder, with White, p1, [k1, p1] twice, pattern to end – 34 (37) sts.

2nd row: Pattern to last 5 sts, with White, k1 [p1, k1] twice. Repeat the last 2 rows, 2 (3)

times more.

Buttonhole row: With White, rib 2, yf, k2tog, p1, pattern to end.

Next row: As 2nd row.

Repeat 1st to 2nd rows,

4 times more, then work 2nd row once again.

Shape shoulder: As given for right back neck from *** to end.

FRONT

Work as given for back to **. Pattern a further 17 (19) rows.

Divide for front neck:

Next row (wrong side): Pattern 26 (28) sts, then slip these sts onto a st holder for right front neck, pattern 11 (13) sts and slip these sts onto another st holder for neckband, pattern to end – 26 (28) sts.

**** Left front neck: Dec 1 st at neck edge on next 6 rows – 20 (22) sts.

Pattern 2 rows (for right front neck, pattern 3 rows).

Shape shoulder: Cast off 10 (11) sts at beginning of next row – 10 (11) sts.

Pattern 1 row.

Cast off.

Right front neck: With right side facing, rejoin correct yarn to sts on right front neck holder – 26 (28) sts.

Complete as given for left front neck from **** to end, noting exception before shaping shoulder.

Sleeves (both Alike)

Join shoulder seams. With right side facing, and with 4mm needles and Red, pick up and k47 (53) sts evenly from row-ends between markers on back and front.

Stranding yarn not in use loosely across wrong side, reading chart from right to left on right side (k) rows and from left to right on wrong side (p) rows, work pattern from chart starting at correct place for your size, and working 8-st repeat 5 (6) times and working 8-row pattern as follows: Beginning with 2nd pattern row as given for back, pattern 36 (40) rows.

Break off White and continue in Red only.

Change to 3.25mm needles.

Decrease row (wrong side): P6, p2tog, [p1, p2tog] to last 6 sts, p6 – 35 (39) sts.

Rib 10 rows as given for back. Cast off in rib.

NECKBAND

With right side facing, and with 3.25mm needles and Red, pick up and k15 (16) sts across left back neck, 11 sts down left front neck, k11 (13) sts from centre front holder, pick up and k11 sts up right front neck and 15 (16) sts across right back neck – 63 (67) sts. Starting with 2nd row, rib 2 rows as given for back.

Buttonhole row (wrong side): Rib to last 3 sts, yf, k2tog, p1. Rib another 2 rows.

Cast off in rib.

TO make up

Press according to ball band. Join side and sleeve seams. Place button band behind buttonhole band and stitch down base. Attach buttons to match buttonhole­s.

TROUSERS

BACK

First leg: With 3.25mm needles and Red, cast on 25 (27) sts.

Rib 9 rows as given for back of sweater.

Next row: Increase row: Rib 3, [inc in each of next 8 (9) sts, rib 3] twice – 41 (45) sts.

Change to 4mm needles. Beginning with a k row, ss 46 (52) rows (for second leg, ss 1 additional row).

Shape crotch: Cast off 3 sts at beginning of next row, then dec 1 st at same edge on next 4 rows – 34 (38) sts. **

Ss 1 row. Break yarn and leave sts on a holder.

Second leg: Work as given for first leg to **, noting exception before shaping crotch and do not break off yarn.

Next row: Joining row: With right side facing and using attached yarn, k34 (38) sts of second leg, then k34 (38) sts of first leg – 68 (76) sts. *** Ss 37 (48) rows.

Shape back: Next row: k62 (70), turn, slip 1, p55 (63), turn, slip 1, k49 (57), turn, slip 1, p43 (51), turn, slip 1, k37 (45), turn, slip 1, p31 (39), turn, slip 1, k to end.

**** Next row: Purl, decreasing 1 st at end of row – 67 (75) sts. Change to 3.25mm needles.

Rib 20 rows as given for sweater. Cast off in rib.

FRONT

Work as given for back of trousers to ***. Ss 38 (44) rows.

Complete as given for back of trousers from **** to end.

TO make up

Press according to ball band. Join back and front crotch seams, then inner leg seams. Join side seams. Fold waistband ribbing in half to wrong side and stitch in place, leaving a small opening. Thread elastic through, secure ends and close opening.
