PARKINSON’S LINK?
The appendix could provide pointers to new treatments for Parkinson’s disease (PD), according to Swedish researchers. They say people who have had theirs removed are a fifth less likely to develop the neurological condition which causes stiffness and shaking. Appendix research has also detected higher levels of specific proteins found in the brains of people with PD. But the researchers say their findings don’t apply to genetically inherited PD.
