FOUR FIXES FOR WINTER BLUES

Woman's Weekly (UK) - - Health -

1 Find the reason

Consider if lack of energy/enthusiasm, fatigue, irritability and carb cravings are due to seasonal affective disorder (SAD) or another cause.

2 Get light

Spend more time outside during the day (exercise is good for mood, too), sit by the window, or try light therapy such as daylight bulbs and light boxes.

3 Try CBT

Cognitive behavioural therapy helps to reframe negative thoughts into more positive ways of coping, such as motivating yourself to eat more healthily and get more done.

4 Consult your Gp

Antidepressants of the SSRI class, such as Citalopram, can help. If you suffer from SAD it may help to start medication in winter until the following spring.
