No-one wants to celebrate in January

Q My birthday is mid-January and I still want to celebrate but it seems no-one else does.

They’re either having a month off drinking or on a diet or short of money. Coupled with that, I always get sale gifts. It’s not fair that those born in June have better presents and more fun.

Angela, portsmouth A I always wonder when we say something is unfair which part of ourselves is talking. Most times, it is the ‘little girl’ inside. Stop for a minute and ask yourself what the adult part of you would say. I understand that you would rather a birthday in the middle of the year but that isn’t how it is! You can choose to have a party or outing later. Or you could think of another activity to do such as a theatre, concert or cinema outing where food isn’t involved.

And don’t forget to be grateful!
