For the best flowers on the longest stems, follow these tips:

✣ Put in supports when planting. Large-flowering types will need a stout cane per stem to stop them flopping. ✣ Pinch out growing tips of stems to create a bushy, floriferous plant. ✣ Nip off the smaller flower buds growing either side of the main one.

✣ Deadhead like a demon, taking spent flowers back to a leaf joint, to encourage new ones.
