On this day in history
On 6 February 1952, at just 25 years old, Queen Elizabeth II succeeded to the throne on the death of her father. This year marks the 70th anniversary of Her Majesty’s reign, and she is the first British monarch to have served the country and commonwealth for seven decades. Platinum Jubilee celebrations will be held throughout 2022, including a dazzling birthday parade and an extended bank holiday, from 2-5 June.
