On 6 February 1952, at just 25 years old, Queen Elizabeth II succeeded to the throne on the death of her father. This year marks the 70th anniversar­y of Her Majesty’s reign, and she is the first British monarch to have served the country and commonweal­th for seven decades. Platinum Jubilee celebratio­ns will be held throughout 2022, including a dazzling birthday parade and an extended bank holiday, from 2-5 June.
