Malham Cove, Yorkshire Dales
With unrivalled views across rolling moorland, Malham Cove is a glorious spot. The gigantic curving cliff face creates a towering natural amphitheatre of ancient limestone, framing a vista that draws visitors from far and wide. The geological marvel was formed by a waterfall carrying meltwater from glaciers at the end of the last Ice Age more than 12,000 years ago. There are also steps and a path to the top, which reaches 260ft, so bring your binoculars. The charming village of Malham makes a top spot for refreshments afterwards.
