3 ways to… avoid malnutrition
EAT SMART
Aim for three main meals a day, with fruit and veg, and starchy foods such as bread, potatoes, pasta and rice. Also eat dairy foods (or alternatives)
and protein.
TOP UP
Snack between meals, and have calorific drinks and fortified foods high in calories and protein. Talk to a dietitian, who can advise on supplements and a nutritious diet.
GET CHECKED
Losing weight isn’t a normal part of ageing, but talk to a GP about tests for underlying conditions
that may affect appetite, weight and nutrient absorption.
