Get an accurate diagnosis
To be sure you’re getting the best medical advice, it’s really important that you can establish a good relationship with your doctor, says Dr Lee. ‘If you can talk clearly about your symptoms, you’ll give your doctor the best chance of making the correct diagnosis. And, once your diagnosis is agreed, you can go on to discuss the various treatment options available. It may be that you don’t actually need a drug. For example, your doctor may prescribe exercise to treat depression, or CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) may be recommended for your menopausal hot flushes.’
