TO WORK THE TAPESTRY

-

1

To prevent the canvas from fraying and catching, fold masking tape evenly in half over the raw edges. Stretch the canvas securely onto the frame or hoop; this will keep the work taut, making it easier to handle while stitching and helping to minimise distortion. 2

The design is worked in half cross-stitch. Working from left to right, bring the needle up through the canvas and take a small diagonal stitch one intersection of threads up and to the right. Bring the needle out again one thread directly below. repeat to form a row of diagonal stitches. Work the next row down in reverse.

3

The chart shows the complete owl design. Each coloured square on the chart represents one half cross-stitch and the key indicates the colour of wool to be used. (Note; the chart is also used for our cross-stitch card, so make sure you refer to the tapestry key when working the key fob tapestry.)

4

Using three strands of crewel wool in your tapestry embroidery needle, refer to the chart and key

to stitch the design. Keep an even tension.
