Entice birds into your garden with a buffet of

berries for them to feast on. Berry-bearing shrubs and trees bring a splash of colour to the garden, too, as well as flowers in spring. Look for natives, such as hawthorn, elder and blackthorn, favoured by blackbirds and mistle thrushes, or holly, which attracts greenfinches and waxwings. For shrubs, go for cotoneaster, pyracantha and berberis, or clothe a fence in ivy and honeysuckle to attract robins,

blackbirds, jays, thrushes and more.
