Hope for humpbacks
Humpback whales are making a splash across the
UK, with more sightings than ever in the past two years. Until recently, it was extremely rare to spot these gentle giants off the British coastline, but more than 75 sightings have been recorded by the Cornwall Wildlife Trust alone since 2019. Humpbacks were also seen chasing shoals of sardines off the Isles of Scilly, the Firth of Forth and off Shetland. It’s a welcome sign that populations are recovering, thanks to whaling bans.
