FISH OILS AND AF
A recent Cochrane review concluded that long-chain omega-3 fats supplements had no benefits on death rates or the incidence of cardiovascular events. Further studies now suggest they may actually be harmful by affecting heart rhythm. A systematic review of randomised controlled trials of supplements of marine omega-3 fatty acids discovered an increase in rates of atrial fibrillation (AF). This was greatest in trials testing supplementary doses of more than 1g daily.
