Welsh cakes

-

Wales

As the name suggests, Welsh cakes originated in Wales, where wives and mothers of miners would cook them for their men as an easy pocket snack. A mix between a pancake, scone and biscuit, the Welsh cake is cooked on a hot griddle and its ingredients include everyday pantry items, such as flour, baking powder, eggs, butter, sugar, spices, and currants and sultanas. They are usually eaten plain, with no butter or jam.
