No – have fun with colour!
‘Dyeing my hair makes me feel young’
Caroline Beddow, 57, from Plumstead in south-east London, thinks colouring hair is a great way to revive your look.
When I started going grey in my early 40s, the silver streaks stuck out like a sore thumb. Dyeing my greys made me feel young and confident. Now I’m in my 50s, I still love the boost having coloured hair gives me.
These days I get my hair professionally dyed, and a trip to the hair salon is a real treat. Sitting back in the hairdresser’s chair with a cup of coffee and a magazine is a glorious bit of me time, and an escape from the stress of daily life. I always come home feeling relaxed and looking my best.
Over time, colouring has also let me explore new looks. But after first covering up the grey with a chestnut shade similar to my natural hair colour, I introduced copper streaks over winter. Recently, I plumped for blonde highlights.
When my hair was dark, I wore red lipstick and bold-coloured clothes, but going blonde has completely refreshed my look. Now I find myself going for softer, pastel colours, and discovering a new style has been a fantastic way to feel revitalised.
I would tell everyone to embrace a new hair colour and have some fun. Why leave it to the kids!
