I need support

-

QI live on my own and I‘ve recently been diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer. I’m having treatment, which is leaving me feeling terrible for about a week a month. I’ve asked my daughter if she would come and stay with me over that week but her husband has said no. Name and address withheld

AThat must be very hard. There are times when we do need family and friends to support us because managing on our own is tough. I wonder if he really understands the situation; it would be good for you to talk to him. I’m also curious as to what is going on in their relationship that he feels unsure about his wife being away for a few days. Chat to your

daughter and see what she can do and then look at who else might help you. I’m sure you have friends who would stay a night or two. Maybe the week could be split between a few people. If there isn’t anyone, talk to the oncology nurse about what support can be offered. They will help you to find what you need. I hope the treatment goes well.
