DIVERTICULITIS MANAGEMENT
In a recent study, nearly 500 people with symptoms of acute diverticulitis (traditionally treated with antibiotics) had the diagnosis confirmed by CT scan. They were then randomly treated, as outpatients, either with an antibiotic (amoxicillin and clavulanic acid) or with a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. Hospital admission occurred no more often in the group receiving anti-inflammatory treatment than in those allocated antibiotics. Further studies are needed.
