ELDER for colds and flu

-

The berries, flowers, leaves and bark of the elder tree have been used as medicine and tonics for centuries. The most common is Sambucus nigra, known as European or black elder. ‘It’s great for respiratory tract infections,’ says herbalist Sebastian Pole. ‘It’s good at soothing a cough or irritation in the lungs.’ It can help shift stubborn catarrh and mucus. Elderberries themselves are anti-inflammatory and antiviral, and are a rich source of immune-supporting vitamin C, as well as powerful antioxidants, anthocyanins and flavonoids.
