On this day in history
The London Stock Exchange was founded in 1801, but incredibly it took until 26 March 1973 before it began admitting women. After years of campaigning for equality in the financial sector, 10 newly elected female members entered the Stock Exchange for the first time. The institution eventually caught up with the modern world though, when 28 years later – in 2001 –
Clara Furse (left) became chief executive.
