Beverley, East Yorkshire
This gem of a town sits in the beautiful Yorkshire Wolds, a gently undulating parcel of countryside between York and the east coast. Its wide streets are lined with Georgian houses, and the Saturday market is held in the square around the Market Cross, which dates from 1714. More than 100 traders sell everything from French patisserie to fruit and veg. With cafe tables outside on the square, it has a really European atmosphere.
