1 Prune figs Large fig plants may need a little pruning now if they are outgrowing their space. Cut just above the leaf and shorten any unwieldy shoots.

2 Discourage lawn moss Rake off any loose thatch and moss on your lawn, then aerate soil with a garden fork and sprinkle sand into the holes.

3 Plant beans Sow broad beans and runner beans directly into the ground and harvest throughout summer. Remember they will need support.
