Tests you might need
✢ Blood tests, including bone minerals calcium and phosphate, full blood count, liver and kidney function, to check for secondary spread and general health.
✢ Radiological tests include bone X-ray, CT scan, MRI and radioactive scans, to image the tumour and check for other bony or surrounding tissue spread.
✢ Chest X-ray and lung CT scans may look for spread to the lungs. Liver ultrasound will check for secondary organ spread.
✢ Biopsy – samples of bone (and bone marrow if a Ewing tumour) are taken under local or general anaesthetic to determine the cancer type and grade.
