An empty bladder can help you feel relaxed, and deep breathing can help too. Also, pop your fists under your bottom to tilt your cervix forward.
PLAN AHEAD
Make sure you arrive in plenty of time for your appointment. ‘Being in a hurry can make you feel more tense,’ says gynaecologist Dr Shree Datta.
SPEAK UP
‘Ask for a small speculum with lubricant applied,’ says Dr Datta, although a bigger one may have to be used if it’s not possible to get a clear view of the cervix using a small one.
