4 fixes for... a high stroke risk

-

EAT SMART

An unhealthy diet leads to increased blood pressure and cholesterol. A low-fat, highfibre diet is best, including fruit, veg and wholegrains.

CUT SALT

Eat no more than 1 teaspoon (6g/0.2oz) of salt daily. Excessive salt increases blood pressure. Limit processed foods containing high levels of salt.

EXERCISE

Combining a healthy diet with regular exercise maintains a healthy weight, lowers your cholesterol and keeps your blood pressure healthy.

DRINK SMART

Cut down on alcohol. Heavy drinking increases stroke risk by up to three times. And stop smoking – visit nhs.uk/ better-health/quit-smoking
