Should he take an unethical job?

Q My husband has been looking for a job for a while but there’s really nothing around in which he’d want to work. Now he’s been offered a job with a company that neither of us approve of. They’re not ethical and have no interest in the climate crisis or social welfare. I understand he wants and needs a job but I will find it hard to support him if he works there. I work for a conservation charity. How will I tell my colleagues? Andrea, Bristol

Your husband needs a job and you say this was the only place he could find one. Are you recommending he stays unemployed? Think about how that would be for him. Sometimes, we find ourselves between a rock and a hard place, and we have to make a decision. He needs your support, not disapproval. Once something else turns up, I’m sure he’ll move as it goes against his values too. I don’t think it matters what your colleagues think, although I’m sure they’d understand the need to work and earn money, and that sometimes we all have to make difficult decisions.
