Graceful globes
For impact, giant globe alliums are hard to beat. Plant in groups or dot through a border, where the bee-friendly flowers float above other plants.
✣ ‘Gladiator’ is over 1m high and its rose-purple flower heads, packed with miniature, star-shaped florets, are the biggest, at 20cm in diameter.
✣ ‘Summer Drummer’ is equally bold, rising to 2.5m with a mix of purple and white florets.
✣ ‘Purple Sensation’ (90cm) packs a punch with its deep violet blooms. ✣ Stately ‘Mount Everest’ (1.2m) has soft white, grapefruit-sized flower heads that look stunning against a dark fence or evergreen foliage, or mixed with purple alliums.
