Olive oil lowers mortality

People who ate more olive oil experience­d substantia­lly lower mortality from cancer, cardiovasc­ular disease and neurodegen­erative diseases, according to pooled analysis of the Nurses’ Health and Health Profession­als studies. This isn’t surprising, as Mediterran­ean diets are linked to lower cardiovasc­ular disease risk, and olive oil features prominentl­y in them. But the question is whether olive oil has directly protective effects or if it’s just a marker for a healthy way of life.
