Will he like me in person?

-

QI’m looking for a new partner and have been using some dating sites. I’ve met people using Zoom and been able to enhance my appearance using the filters; I’m only seen from the neck up. I have quite a pretty face but I’m shorter than I look and fatter. I’ve arranged to meet one guy but I’m not sure I can go. I expect he’ll be horrified when he sees me and I couldn’t bear to see that reaction on his face. Name and address withheld

AI think this is an understandable anxiety that most people would have when meeting someone new. I’m sure you don’t look that different facially from what you look like in the flesh. As your body isn’t visible on-screen, you could suggest you both

describe yourselves before meeting, so he knows what to expect. The reality, though, is that we fall in love with the person, and if he has already seen your face and chatted to you a number of times, I don’t expect he’ll be put off. The main benefit to discussing it beforehand is that you will feel better and, in turn, come over more relaxed – and that is the most appealing thing.
