Get your body going with these secret fat-fighters

-

1 Lemon

When it comes to weight loss, this citrus fruit gets top marks. Not only does lemon help to keep blood sugar balanced and improve digestion, but the alkaline fruit is also thought to increase metabolism.

2 Chilli

Can chilli boost your metabolism and curb cravings? One study by the University of Wyoming found that capsaicin – the substance that gives chilli its fire – activates receptors in the body’s white and brown fat cells, which ignites the process of energy burning, turning the ‘bad’ white fat cells into ‘good’ brown fat cells.

3 Vinegar

There’s evidence to show that this salad dressing staple may be a super-slimmer. The key ingredient in apple cider vinegar, acetic acid, is thought to turn on gene signalling in the body to break down fat, preventing it from building up in cells.

4 Oolongtea

While coffee can be a powerful metabolism-boosting aid, it comes with its downsides (such as dehydrating your body and causing blood-sugar fluctuations). Oolong tea contains far less caffeine and a ton of antioxidants. One study showed that drinking the tea resulted in a 10 per cent increase in energy expenditure in women two hours after consumption, which could help with weight management.

5 Water

Studies show that water can significantly improve weight-loss results. It’s thought that it helps to flush toxins from your body, making it easier to lose weight. H2O also gets your digestive system moving to bust bloating. For a jumpstart, sip on cold water to bump up your metabolic rate.
