FOOD ON THE FLY: SORTED
So Sunday was spent on the sofa instead of ladling soup into Tupperware. No problem. Registered dietitian Anna Daniels, armed with a fiver, picks out the healthiest lunch options on the high street
WHERE? Pret WHAT? Sweet Potato Falafel & Smashed Beets Veggie Box, £4.50
WHY? The starchy sweet potato packs skin-boosting betacarotene, while beetroot brings antioxidants and nitrates, which can keep blood pressure healthy and boost endurance. A little box of big benefits. WHERE? Costa WHAT? Tuna Niçoise Salad, £3.99 WHY? Tuna is a nutritional winner, being high in both protein and omega-3 fatty acids – this one is sustainably fished, too. The eggs up the protein content and are rich in vitamins B2, B6 and B12 – essential for helping your body convert food into energy. WHERE? Leon WHAT? Naked Satay Chicken Burger, £4.95
WHY? All the satiating joy of a burger – minus the weigh-you-down starchiness of a bread bun. The chicken packs lean protein while the satay brings important macro and micronutrients such as poly and monounsaturated fats and vitamin E. WHERE? Starbucks WHAT? BBQ Vegan Wrap With Jackfruit & Slaw, £3.29 WHY? Jackfruit is the meat alternative getting people excited. It doesn’t match chicken or pork in the protein stakes, but it’s a good fibrous option, while rich in vitamin C and potassium – an essential mineral for a healthy heart. WHERE? Eat WHAT? Middle Eastern Tabbouleh, £4.50
WHY? Bulgar wheat is high in fibre and protein. A different take on tabbouleh, this salad contains butternut squash, which is rich in beta-carotene, and pomegranate seeds – a great source of vitamin C and other antioxidants.
