Protein-packed algae spirulina hit the news (and a health store near you) a while back, and now, agricultural developments mean that sustainably producing algae in large volumes is possible. Keep your eyes peeled for vitamin-k-rich kelp, calcium powerhouse wakame and iodine source nori. Also, look out for algal oil; it’s the sustainable version of fish oil and contains vast quantities of brain-boosting DHA. Nutritious and environmentally savvy? Shore thing.
