Most women over the age of 14 will need 9mg a day, says Patel, and should ensure their intake doesn’t top 40mg to avoid zinc toxicity – symptoms of which range from reduced immune function to vomiting and diarrhoea. If you’re pregnant or breastfeed­ing, aim for 11mg or 12mg respective­ly.

Your boob buddy should get all the zinc they need until five or six months, at which point they’ll need a top-up via food, too.
