Scientists researchin­g the Mosuo tribe of south-west China found that women in its matriarcha­l villages (where grandmothe­rs are the heads of households) have lower blood pressure and fewer inflammato­ry proteins in their blood than those in similar, but patriarcha­l, villages*. This suggests that women being in charge is good for their health, according to the study authors.
