I want to open up to my partner about my poor mental health. Any advice?

The decision to confide in a partner about something as intimate as your mental health is a difficult one, but doing so can be incredibly rewarding. Amy Morin, psychotherapist and author of 13 Things Mentally Strong People Don’t Do, says that if words such as ‘depression’ feel too heavy at first, you might find it easier to centre the conversation around stress. ‘Say you’re feeling more stressed than usual, or that you’re not handling your stress as well as you’d want to. You might even ask if your partner has ever felt similarly,’ she suggests. ‘This can open the door to a bigger conversation about depression, anxiety or mental health in general.’ And those are the ones that are worth having.
