Challengin­g – but make it fun. This is Meggan Grubb’s MO when it comes to designing workouts for her clientele of thousands. And whether she’s creating a session for herself or her lifestyle app Beyond – which features five different workout programmes and five-star reviews aplenty – the personal trainer starts with the functional strength fundamenta­ls. ‘My priorities when putting a workout together are for it to be intense and effective, so I include varied techniques and adjustment­s to moves – like pulses and pauses – to ensure that it’s challengin­g,’ she says. ‘But I also want it to be a session you’ll enjoy.’

You’ll find all of the above (including those pauses) in this exclusive lowerbody workout Grubb has designed for WH, which focuses on the glutes, hamstrings, quads and core – the PT’S favourite muscle groups to train. ‘In these exercises, you’ll specifical­ly target and isolate the glutes,’ she explains.

‘The circuit has minimal rest to keep you focused and get your heart rate up, leaving you sweaty and your muscles burning.’ Grubb’s top tip for lower-body gains? ‘The mind-muscle connection is key. Think about the muscles you’re using as you squeeze them. It sounds silly, but it makes such a difference.’
