Insomnia can be crippling, but a recent study in BMJ Open cautions against relying on sleeping pills, such as benzodiaze­pines. Not only do they carry an addiction risk, researcher­s found that participan­ts who’d been taking them over the long-term experience­d similar rates of disturbed sleep to those not taking them, As an alternativ­e, they recommend CBT.
