VITAMIN A, EH?

‘Vitamin A is actually a group of fat-soluble compounds called retinoids,’ says dietitian Sophie Medlin (citydietit­ians.co.uk). ‘It exists in two forms: preformed vitamin A, which mainly derives from animal products, and provitamin A (a provitamin is converted into a vitamin by your body after you consume it), which mainly comes from plant sources.’ As for vitamin A’s main roles? ‘Improving vision, aiding fertility, generating communicat­ion between cells and boosting immune function – mainly because of its anti-inflammato­ry properties.’
