What can I actually give to a hygiene bank?

-

Bathroom cabinet bursting at the seams? Standard. Research estimates that the average woman will waste £180,000 on unused beauty products in her lifetime. The good news is that charities such as Beauty Banks (beautybanks.org.uk) will happily take your unwanted beauty bits and redistribute them to those living in poverty. What can you pack up and ship off? Think skincare, such as moisturisers, cleansers, face masks, SPF; haircare, such as shampoo, conditioner; all types of make-up, as well as essential hygiene products, including deodorant, tampons, sanitary towels, toothpaste, toothbrushes, razors, soap and flannels. Hotel and flight minis are also a great shout for those living in temporary accommodation.

The number one rule when donating products? They must be unopened and in date. Electrical items such as hairdryers and razors are welcome, but again, they need to be brand new, in original packaging and pre-fitted with a UK plug. Items that aren’t welcome? Fake tan, health supplements and vitamins, as well as nail polish, which smashes in transit.
