TEACHER TRAINING

With so many types of mental health professional, shopping for the right expertise can be confusing. Here’s your guide...

-

If stress is interfering with your life…

We’re talking prolonged anxiousness and when typical coping mechanisms (such as the ones in this article) aren’t helping. Or your worries are messing with work and relationships. Someone with a background in mental health, in addition to performance skills, may be a good bet. LOOK FOR a psychotherapist or counsellor with BACP accreditation (you can also opt for someone with performance coaching skills). CHECK OUT welldoing.org to choose the right professional for you.

If you’re chasing big, exciting goals…

You may benefit from a performance coach. Worry, poor motivation or fear of letting others down can be relieved by getting help to make these skills second nature, says Dr Wieland. LOOK FOR performance coaches certified by the International Coaching Federation (ICF), or applied sports psychologists. CHECK OUT the UK ICF’S coaching directory (coachingfederation.org.uk) and the Global Directory of Sports Psychology Consultants (sportingbounce.com).
