Piebald white­tail deer will need all their speed

North Amer­ica’s small­est deer in­habit forests and mead­ows, where their usual dull brown fur makes them hard for preda­tors to spot. These young piebald deer aren’t as well cam­ou­flaged, but when pur­sued they can run at 48 kilo­me­tres (29.9 miles) an hour and cover nine me­tres (29.5 feet) in one leap.
