Coral grouper

The family man

World of Animals - - Meet The Family -

Unsurprisingly, coral groupers are found swimming in the clear waters around coral reefs. Most of their diet is made up of fish, with the rest consisting of crustaceans. They’re ambush predators, hiding themselves and lying in wait until prey pass by.

Dominant male coral groupers control harems containing as many as 12 females. Within the group’s territory, each female holds and defends her own smaller area. Both sexes are brightly coloured, endearing them to fish enthusiasts and aquarium visitors alike.
