Thorn bugs make sure they al­ways look sharp

Um­bo­nia cras­si­cor­nis is one of sev­eral species known as thorn bugs. This cun­ning in­sect is about ten mil­lime­tres (0.4 inches) long and has a tall, plate-like struc­ture called a prono­tum that con­fuses preda­tors by mak­ing it look just like a thorn as it crawls along plant stems.
