Af­ter a ges­ta­tion pe­riod of around 220 days, a sin­gle calf is born weigh­ing around 2.5-9kg (5.5-19.8lb). Within a few min­utes the calf can stand and af­ter an hour it is able to walk.

Learn­ing to run 1 day

By the end of the calf’s first day it is able to fol­low its mother closely and can out­run an Olympic sprinter. It joins the rest of the herd by night­fall and must keep up to sur­vive.
