introducing solids 1 week
The calf is reliant on its mother’s rich milk but begins to eat solid foods after just one week. It is vulnerable prey for predators so stays close to its mother and the herd.
Weaning 6 months
During the first six months of its life a calf will double its body weight every two to three weeks. After six months the calf will be weaned and is no longer reliant on its mother for food.
