Former PAOK and Panathinai­kos boss ANGELOS ANASTASIAD­IS took over from Michael Skibbe as coach of Greece.

La Liga strugglers Celta Vigo replaced coach Antonio Mohamed with MIGUEL CARDOSO. Iran internatio­nal striker KARIM ANSARIFARD, who was released by Greek side Olympiakos, joined English Championsh­ip club Nottingham Forest.

AKBAR PATEL, who led Mauritius to the gold medal at the Indian Ocean Islands Games on home soil in 2003, returned for a fourth spell in charge of the national side ahead of next year’s hosting of the regional tournament.

SVEN GORAN ERIKSSON signed a six-month deal to coach Philippine­s ahead of January’s Asian Cup.

Republic of Ireland coach MARTIN O’NEILL stood down, along with assistant ROY KEANE. Fenerbahce sacked coach PHILLIP COCU after four months in charge of the Turkish side. Former England midfielder JOE COLE, whose last club was Tampa Bay Rowdies in the USA second tier, announced his retirement at 37.
