Ranieri faces formidable task
Can Claudio Ranieri, who once performed minor miracles at Leicester City, save Fulham?
They spent a hundred million during the summer after coming up from the Championship, but they were never going to find things easy in the Premier League. On the face of it, Fulham seem to have bought badly and a heavy recent defeat at Manchester United, who had been struggling to score goals, was ominous.
Arguably, their three best players were all aboard throughout last season. Tom Cairney, with his elegant left foot, can be a metronome for the side. Ryan Sessegnon is a precociously good left-winger who can also function as an overlapping full-back. Aleksandar Mitrovic, when decently supported, can be a dynamic striker.
As things stand, however, Ranieri has inherited a formidable task with a team which has been betrayed by its transfer policy.
