Sheriff made it four league titles in a row, extending their national record to a total of 17. They have only finished off top spot twice since 2001. Winners in 2012, Milsami lifted the cup for a second time, beating Zimbru Chisinau 2-0 in the Final with two goals in extra-time from sub Maxim Antoniuc. As usual, Sheriff will play in the Champions league qualifiers. Milsami and Petrocub Hincesti go into the Europa League. One more Europa League place will be allocated after the 2019 Cup Final in May.

Zaria Balti finished bottom of the league and will be replaced by A Division champions Codru Lozova. A graduate of Anderlecht’s youth academy, Sherif’s Belgian striker Ziguy Badibanga impressed with eight goals and eight asissts. Lilian Popescu guided Petrocub to third place in the league for a second successive season, which is considered a big success for a small provincial club. Many young Moldovan players moved to foreign clubs this year and 20year-old Zaria Balti forward Vadim Gulceac is the best of the next crop that are coming through.
