Just weeks after launching The FA’s new diversity code in an effort to increase BAME and female representation, its chairman was forced to resign after a series of offensive remarks, including use of the term “coloured footballers.” In a statement, Clarke said: “I am deeply saddened that I have offended those diverse communities in football that I and others worked so hard to include.” He later also stood down as FIFA vice-president.
