UEFA sticking to Euro 2020 plans
UEFA have insisted that they have no intention of changing their plans for this summer’s European Championship, in spite of reports emerging suggesting a deviation from the intended 12-city tournament.
In February, the president of the Albanian FA, Armand Duka claimed: “It’s possible that Euro 2020 will be played solely in England,” and a few weeks later a report by the Associated
Press claimed that UEFA could strip hosting away from certain venues if they were unable to guarantee a certain attendance. Under current COVID restrictions, that would put Bilbao, Dublin and Glasgow at risk in terms of hosting matches.
Following both reports, UEFA were quick to insist: “No other plans are being pursued,” but speculation is likely to continue over the coming weeks.
